The Western Stage Line began to operate stagecoaches from Lizard Point in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Sergeant Bluff, located in Sioux City, Iowa, in the year of 1855, and in the following year John H. Moorehead began to build an inn over a Native American burial ground. It was completed in 1863, and it was the first building erected in Ida Grove. It served as the county courthouse until 1871.
